A friend recently asked me: “How does meditation help you in your daily life?”
This made me think about how meditation helps me. Here are some examples of how meditation helps me in my daily life:
Work
I’m not the smartest person in my team, however, I can now be consistent.
Meditation helped me change my daily habits. I can wake up at 5.45 am and be the first person at work. I get 1.5 hours of work done before most of the office turns up. This is a productive time for me. I used to get up at 7.15 am 3 years ago.

Exercise
Meditation has given me the right mindset to exercise.
In the past, my laziness and high dosage of medication pulled me down from exercising. Now I can stay consistent with the gym and running. Something that really helps me and makes me feel better.

Fresher Mind
I can’t say that every day I am a box of birds, but regular meditation has tremendously moved my perspective to see the sun, to see goodness, rather than staying inside my dark thoughts and complaints.
Emptying my mind on a regular basis gives me a fresher perspective to start the day with gratitude.

Community
Meditation gives me a supportive community, a healing place. I am fortunate to have a Centre I can go to. The energy at the Centre is different. I always feel better after being at the Centre. I have met many people from around the world through this meditation, in New Zealand and overseas. I've been able to form close relationships with these people who have helped me a lot.

Medication
Meditation has given me the courage to reduce my medication.
It has given me the courage to know I will be okay.
I have been able to reduce my medication to a smaller dosage while still feeling safe. As a result, I have a clearer mind on a daily basis.
Song writing
I compose my own songs on guitar.
Before meditation, my music was dark and a bit down. However, since emptying my negative thoughts, my music has become brighter. I think my music is better than before. I’m not so analytical about my music. I enjoy playing music more now. I can also appreciate other musicians and their work because I have more space in my mind.
I recently went to a gig performed by an overseas artist - he was so incredible, he knocked me over. Had I not done meditation I wouldn't have loved his show as much.
I hope this article helps someone in their meditation journey. 🙏
