I just spent 14 days at a meditation main centre in South Korea, and wow, what a journey it was!
After a long 14-hour flight from New Zealand, I opened my eyes and—boom—I was in Korea. I think I must have been super sleepy because it felt like I barely spent any time in the air. I’d wake up, drift off again, and it was actually pretty awesome!
This was my first time at a meditation centre in Korea, and it meant a lot to me since I’ve been practicing at my local centre in Auckland for the past seven years. This place is special because it’s where meditation methods are shared with the world.
Over the years, I’ve noticed some incredible changes in myself—more stability in my mood, better focus, loads of energy, and deeper sleep. It’s like I’ve been blooming like a flower, all thanks to meditation.
During my stay, I connected with so many people from different parts of the globe, all of us sharing our stories of confusion and pain. It’s wild how we can all get caught up in our false perceptions, walking around like we’re in a dream, missing out on true experiences of peace, silence, and joy.
The centre itself is pretty big, perfect for wandering around and getting some exercise. I spent time hiking with my shoes off, connecting with the earth—such a refreshing experience! There’s even a kimchi factory, which totally surprised me, and a delightful coffee and dessert spot that I couldn’t get enough of. Plus, there’s a large meditation hall catering to everyone, no matter their experience level.
I stayed in a spacious, clean room that felt super comfortable with great shower facilities. It was nice to see everyone arriving tired and busy, but after a few days of meditation together, they all looked revitalized.
The vibe here is just right—it’s not just about material comforts, but a healthy state of mind filled with good food and warm, simple relationships.
These 14 days flew by, but it already feels like home: fresh air, green mountains, organic meals, grateful people, and loving teachers. I know I’ll be back, and I can’t wait to reconnect with all the wonderful souls here. Strangers really do feel like family.
Catch you next time!
